Our journey, your support.

Welcome to Anchored Together Aberdeenshire Family Support. We understand the challenges families face when a loved one battles any addiction or compulsive behaviour. Our story began with shared experiences and a powerful vision: to create a safe, non-judgemental space where every family member and loved one feels heard, understood, and truly supported. Join us as we build connections, challenge stigma, and offer hope.

Our personal journey to anchored together.

Anchored Together was born from a deeply personal experience. Nikki and Shona connected through Shona's daughter, Lauren, and a shared understanding of supporting loved ones through addiction and compulsive behaviours. Facing difficulties in finding adequate emotional support and resources for themselves and their loved ones, together they reached out to Scottish Families Affected by Drugs and Alcohol and Aberdeen in Recovery. This vital funding allowed them to establish a much-needed support group, dedicated to combating the stigma and judgement often faced by families. Our group extends its embrace to those affected by alcohol, drugs, or any other addictive and compulsive behaviours, ensuring no one walks this path alone.

A unique space for understanding and connection.

What sets Anchored Together apart is our unwavering commitment to providing a truly safe, non-judgemental space. We believe that being listened to, heard, and understood is the first step towards healing and empowerment. Unlike generic services, we offer a deeply empathetic environment where you can share your experiences freely. Furthermore, we actively build and maintain strong connections with local services and support networks, ensuring you have access to a comprehensive ecosystem of help tailored to your family's specific needs.

Finding hope, together.

When a family connects with Anchored Together, our most profound hope is that they experience a renewed sense of connection, love, and hope. We aim to mend fractured relationships, foster understanding within families, and rebuild trust in the journey towards recovery. Our ultimate goal is to empower you to navigate these challenges with strength, knowing you are part of a caring community. We want you to leave feeling less isolated, more supported, and equipped with the tools and connections to move forward positively.

"Having joined this group I’ve meet lovely people who also have loved ones with an addiction.
At first I was scared to attend these meetings as the thought of being judged for something I’ve no control over is intimidating, how wrong I was to feel this way. I was made to feel welcome and at ease immediately.
It’s a lonely existence being a parent of an addict and having ATAFS has helped me immensely. We discuss what’s been happening in our lives and give each other encouragement and strength to keep going. Unless you’re in our situation you can’t understand how we feel and what we’re going through. At ATAFS we understand each other.
There isn’t enough support out there for families and friends of addicts. We don’t know what to do, this wasn’t what we signed up for and are all trying our hardest, but with more support from other sources maybe our journey could be less stressful.
This group is a life line for me and I’m extremely grateful being  part of it.
Thank you Nikki and Shona"

A grateful family member
